The Unspoken Truth about Motherhood
The unspoken truth about motherhood is that mothers are multi-tasking machines who never put themselves first. They are able to have a conversation while looking after their baby. Their baby could be up to mischief, in need of a feeding or sleep and a mother will be able to multitask this with normal day-to-day duties.
When speaking to mothers, they talk about their babies, partners, news they have and also about you and your life. But they never talk about their struggles, mothers are constantly exhausted because of how persistent life is and will sometimes have a secret cry every now and then. This is because mothers will struggle in silence.
This is a lot of discussion around pre and postnatal mental health, but some mothers will not seek help. There are many reasons why women might struggle with mental health during or after pregnancy. Sometimes the reasons are biological, physical, psychological or social changes that happen when having a baby. There is an unspoken stigma about mothers admitting they are struggling. This is due to the myth of being a perfect parent and the changing and rising standards that mothers face.
But remember, you can’t put from an empty cup – so look after yourself!
