Last Tuesday night Mums at Work held the first post-lockdown networking event in the Roof Top Garden at The Merchant Hotel in Belfast.

The night began with Mums At Work Founder Sinead Norton welcoming back all the ladies for the first time in months.

Sinead said, “This is something we took for granted when we said, ‘Thank you for coming’ because we haven’t seen each other in such a long time.
We have missed out on that value of human connection that we have right now. If some of you are new, you are very welcome. But some of us have only met online.

I want to thank you for continuing to support each other, during what we have been going through for the last 18 months.”

Sinead continued by talking about some of the personal challenges they have also supported each other through.

She said, “Also for the personal support you have given me. As you know for the past year I was told the words that no one wants to ever hear, ‘you have cancer’ and I had to get through that.
I wouldn’t have been able to get through that without the personal support from ALL of you in this room.”

Sinead explained that through the support they have offered each other they have become friends.

“Some people in this room have had personal tragedy, lost their business or have been sick and there is many people here who have had covid – and there is some people who have had all of that.”

After Sinead’s welcome back speech, all the women were given a piece of card to compose an introduction of themselves for the nights mic round. They had to write who they are, what their business is and what they specialise in.

This ice-breaker allowed them to get to know each other in more and network. The rest of the night they made connections and socialised as it is so important to get to know others so they can support, collaborate and recommend each other at the events.
