Deborah’s ‘Gracie Belle Studio’ Journey
All about Gracie Belle Studio
Gracie Belle Studio supplies wedding stationery all over the UK. Deborah Clarke who runs the business specialises in modern calligraphy for weddings and events. She does not print any of her stationery and everything is handwritten. The stationary included is majority the finishing touches for weddings. These are place cards, table plans, menus, wedding favours and little handwritten signs to place throughout the customers venue. Deborah can write on most materials for a wedding such as fabric backdrops, marble tiles, glass and wooden panels. She also creates hand lettered chalkboard and mirror signs.
Gracie Belle Studio Customers
Deborah said there are two types of customers; those who know exactly what they want and those who have a rough idea or none at all. She can supply for both as she loves creating stationary to match her customers vision but also loves creating visions for those who are unsure. Customers can send her their guest list and know that they can tick that job off their list.
“I can take the stress out of completing the last minute jobs”
Where the name originated
Gracie Belle Studio is named after Deborah’s daughters Grace and Isabelle. Her business started off as a hobby at first but after ordering a modern calligraphy kit and practicing every night for hours, she felt like she could start making products for other people.
“I started off making cards for family and friends, which led me to open an Etsy shop for greeting cards. It more successful than I thought, and I naturally progressed into wedding work from there and found myself receiving orders from all over the UK.”
Deborah has always loved stationery. Her job now gives her the perfect excuse to hoard the items used to create her products. Her business has also allowed her to choose her own hours and not pay for childcare as her studio is located in her garden.
“In all honesty I wouldn’t change a thing as I feel extremely lucky to be in the position to work from home, doing a job I really love and that fits around my family.”
More about Deborah
In Deborah’s spare time she is in her studio working or thinking up new ideas. She also spends her evenings catching up on TV series with her husband or listening to a true crime podcast or documentary.
Deborah’s advice for anyone starting off their own business to “Know your worth!” She struggled with pricing in the beginning and ended up massively undercharging her products at first.
Deborah recently joined Mums at Work after seeing it mentioned on Instagram stories by other local businesses. So far, she can already see the benefits of the Facebook group and VIP group. She is also hoping to attend a few events and make connections with others in the wedding industry and collaborate with them. Shop with Deborah on Etsy here
