Business Mum Patricia Pollard was always very creative, always making something. When my kids were small she learned everything about cake decorating from woman’s magazines (No YouTube back then!), just to be able to make their birthday cakes. However when her youngest son was in primary school he was diagnosed with dyslexia. So in order to give him the attention and support he needed, she decided to leave her job in order to be at home more. After a bit of success with baking cakes for family and friends she decided she had nothing to lose so, Cakes2party was born.

Based in Maghera, Patricia has 3 Children and 2 Grandchildren and she creates all types of cakes and cupcakes for every occasion. Weddings, birthdays, christenings and more. She believes that if you have an idea, the next step is to talk to some one who has done it and don’t be afraid to ask for help because in her experience, there are great sources of funding and business advice available.

I asked Patricia what does she think is her biggest struggle in her business and she confided, “Time management! There was a stage when I wouldn’t say no to anyone so in turn I was burning the mid-night oil too often! I’ve now learned to turn orders away and in doing so I manage my time better.”

Patricia says she is 50 years old and proud of it! In her spare time, she loves watching the latest box-set on Netflix and spending a Sunday with her husband.

She is extremely proud of her own business and these days is very proud of watching her daughter Erin start her own business and follow in her enterpreneurial steps and says that they are alike in many ways and are both Leos.
