Mum of 2, Erin Walls, from Maghera, has two sides to her business. She works from home, offering beauty treatments, mainly HD brows and waxing, makeup, spray tans and lash lifts. She is also a fully qualified nail technician. On the cosmetics side, Erin has recently launched her online store with her first product range of glitters. She eventually plans to have a broad range of cosmetics under her Erin Cosmetics brand to include brow products and eyeshadows.
Erin was working full time and had started doing bits and pieces of beauty from home while having her two children. Then when her youngest was 9 months old, she decided to become self employed and took the leap from there.
Erin’s biggest struggle in your business has been finding a work-home balance. She says, “No matter how much or little time you spend working, you always feel like you aren’t spending enough time with your children or enough time working. I have come to realise it’s the quality of the time you spend with your children that is more important.”
To relax, Erin goes to the gym which helps me to clear my head as she has anxiety and get stressed really easily but a good workout always helps her to get rid of negative energy. She admits to being a reality TV junkie when she has an hour off to catch up.
Stepping out of her comfort zone and organising her first masterclass February has been a significant recent achievement as she says “I didn’t think anyone would want to come listen to me harping on about make-up but it was a great success.”
Erin has attended a Mums at Work event and is an active member of our online group. Her advice to other members who are thinking of becoming self employed is this:
“If you know there is a demand for what you are developing then absolutely go for it. You don’t want to look back on any time in your life and think ‘what if’.”
